Why You Need AC In Your Car In Winter ?

Many car drivers hesitate whether needs to run their car’s ac compressor during the cold winter days. In fact, there are many benefits to run the car’s ac compressor in the winter.

Air Conditioning Compressor

The car’s ac compressor does more than just cool the air before it passed through the car. You can use the air conditioning compressor while controlling the heat setting of the car to control the climate within.  Blowing that dry air onto a fogged-up window will remove that moisture more effectively, clearing up your visibility much faster. You can still set the temperature as warm as you’d like.

Air Conditioning Problems

Although the cooling aspect of the air conditioning system will not be used during the winter months, car drivers will still be able to catch any major issues. If your original compressor needs to be replaced due to clutch failure, delaying that repair could also have adverse effects on your vehicle’s belt drive system. An AC clutch pulley that is locking up or dragging could tear up your accessory drive belt, which also powers things like your power steering or alternator. If that belt snaps, you lose those systems. Even if the pulley hasn’t fully seized, it could drag on the belt, causing those other systems to get less power; this would manifest itself in your steering getting harder to turn because of inadequate power steering pressure, or your headlights getting dimmer and your car getting harder to start because the alternator isn’t charging the battery as much as it’s supposed to. If the air conditioner is not run during the long cold winter months, a problem with the system may not be noticed until the next summer. It means the car drivers could be driving around without air conditioning when the hotter months come around.

Air Conditioning System

Running the air conditioner during the winter will help prevent the car’s cooling system components from wasting away. For one thing, it helps reduce the loss of refrigerant which occurs when the air conditioning unit is not used for extended periods of time. For another thing, it also helps keep up the service life of the vehicle, reduce the need for to take the car to a local  auto repair shop for expensive cooling system repairs. So we suggest those who prefer not to run their air conditioning system during the winter months should make sure they at least run it for 30 minutes once a week. This can help keep the system active and fluids flowing through the a/c compressor.

In a word, running the air conditioner in a car during the winter months has many different benefits. Those who do so will be able to more efficiently control the temperature and moisture in the car. Plus, they can also protect the cooling system and possibly avoid high repair costs.
